Southland
Ministry Introduction
Establishing Education
In 2018, AGS began to send an International Member to Southland to develop the local ministry and to partner with churches and seminaries in the province. According to the government statistics in 2020: The population of the province is about 5 million. Children and young people who are aged 19 and below comprises approximately 35% of the total population. Christian churches are permitted by the government to run schools, and up to half of the curriculum can involve belief in Christianity, and religious activities can be held freely. Therefore, to share Good News by running school is an appropriate strategy, so as to nurture the next generation believers with far-reaching impact. Thankfully, AGS has developed trustful relationship with churches in the province. We have supported a local church in raising funds for the construction of the school building. The opening ceremony of the new school building was held on June 1, 2021.
Theological education
AGS’ International Member plans to teach in a local theological seminary. The seminary has been established for more than 30 years and has been recognized by the government. There are currently over a hundred seminary students from different races and provinces, as well as several overseas students. In addition to teaching in the seminary, the International Member will also be committed to mobilization of missions and disciple making movement . The graduated students are expected to be sent to serve the Least Reached People Groups in this province as well as other provinces. On the other hand, AGS will support the livelihood of local workers through poverty alleviation.
Way Forward
Through theological education, Disciple Making Movement, charitable works and setting up an education centre, AGS intends to partner with local churches and organisations. Most importantly, with your prayer support, the Good News can be shared to the Least Reached People Groups throughout more provinces in Southland.
